Constitutionalism

Constitutionalism is the idea, often of the political theories of John Locke along with the founders of the particular American republic, that government can and should be legally limited in its forces, and that the authority or legitimacy is dependent upon its observing most of these limitations. Constitutionalism is “a complex of ideas, attitudes, and patterns of behavior elaborating the principle that this authority of govt derives from and is limited by a body of essential law”.
