Consociationalism is a kind of democracy which seeks to modify the sharing of power in the state that comprises diverse societies (distinct ethnic, religious, political, nation’s or linguistic groups), by allocating these communities collective rights. Consociationalism is normally viewed as synonymous with power-sharing, although it is technically merely one form of power-sharing.
