Disadvantages of Off-the-Job Training

Off-the-job training is another method of employee training which is concerned with the arrangements organized away from an organizational workstation. It takes place outside the workstation and is mostly classroom base. The trainees focus on learning experience by going under training outside the organizational workplace. The workers are free of tension and work hurdles when they are learning so that they can learn better.

Following methods may be used under off-the-job training:

  • Classroom lecturers
  • Films
  • Simulation exercise
  • Program instruction.

Off-the-job training goes through the following drawbacks:

  1. Outside the Work Station

Off-the-job training program takes place outside the workstation, so that it may not yield the desired result to employees as they are unknown with actual machines and equipment.

  1. Not Effective

Off-the-job training will not be effective as the employees are trained in an artificial classroom. They are unfamiliar with the actual work environment. As a result of which, it requires a long time for them to learn.

  1. No Production

During the training period, no production takes place because employees are kept away from the actual workplace. The organization bears only training cost without any physical output.

  1. Expensive

Off-the-job training is expensive in the sense that the organization has to prepare an extra place for training outside the actual work environment.

  1. Lack of Feedback

The employees have trained away from the organizational work environment; hence, it lacks feedback to employees.
