Dypingite: Properties and Occurrence

Dypingite is a hydrated magnesium carbonate mineral with the formula: Mg5(CO3)4(OH)2·5H2O. It is a monoclinic white mineral containing carbon, hydrogen, magnesium, and oxygen.

Its type locality is the Dypingdal serpentine-magnesite deposit, Snarum, Norway.

Properties

Dypingite was found in materials obtained during the production of high-purity MgO from crude magnesite by the calcination/CO2-leaching process. The snow-white, finely crystalline dypingite contains MgO 41.0%.
