Metamorphic Rocks

Metamorphism means to change. Rocks change with temperature and pressure. Usually takes place deep in the Earth. A metamorphic rock is a result of a transformation of a pre-existing rock. Examples of these rock types include marble, slate, gneiss, schist. Characteristics of Metamorphic Rocks: May be foliated/banded; Rarely contain fossils and React with acids.
