Cleanliness and hygiene are very important in the life of every person because it resists bacteria that can harm our health. In spite of tremendous advancement in medical science, thousands of people die of various diseases every year, especially in the Third World countries. Many of those precious human lives can be saved if people maintain cleanliness and observe the general rules of health and sanitation. The goals of cleanliness are health, beauty, absence of offensive odor and to avoid the spreading of dirt and contaminants to oneself and others. Cleanliness and Hygiene must be maintained if you want to live a healthy and hygienic life.

‘Prevention is better than cure” goes the old wise saying. It is extremely difficult and sometimes impossible to recover health if it is once lost. Fresh and clean food, water, and air are essential for the preservation of health. In order to ensure the freshness and cleanliness of these three things, it is necessary for us to observe and practice certain rules of sanitation. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. By keeping one’s teeth, finger-nails, and body clean, by eating clean food and drinking clean water, and by breathing clean air one can keep oneself healthy. It gives rise to a good character by keeping the body, mind, and soul clean and peaceful. It is important to keep the food covered to prevent contamination by flies and other insects and also by dust and dirt. It is the responsibility of every individual in a society to take care of his personal as well as community health. Maintaining cleanliness and a healthy lifestyle is an essential part of healthy living because it is cleanliness only which helps to improve our personality by keeping clean externally and internally. Diseases like Jaundice, Cholera, Ascariasis, Leptospirosis, Ringworm, Scabies, Schistosomiasis, Trachoma, etc can be spread due to eating contaminated food, drinking contaminated water, or living in an unhygienic condition. The people should be made aware of the importance of keeping their surroundings clean and free from pollution to avoid health hazards.

It is everybody’s responsibility and one should keep themselves and their surroundings clean and hygienic. Spitting indiscriminately, sneezing without covering the mouth and nose, and smoking in public are some of the habits which are undesirable as they may cause serious health problems for others. Such habits should be given up. It also brings good and positive thoughts in the mind which slows down the occurrence of diseases. In order to keep good health, every individual should meticulously try to observe the basic rules of health and sanitation.

Thousands of lives can be saved only by observing general rules of health and maintaining cleanliness. Sanitation and neatness play an important role in our day to day routine. To preserve good health we must ensure freshness and cleanliness and consume fresh and clean food, water, and air. To avoid health hazards we must keep ourselves clean, prevent contamination, and keep our surroundings clean and pollution-free. It is important as it prevents dangerous diseases like Dengue, typhoid, hepatitis, and other diseases caused by mosquito bites, etc. Bad habits like smoking publicly, spitting here and there, etc. should be given up. Finally, we must take care of individual and community health. Keeping the surroundings clean and tidy can save you from any kind of sickness.
