Main objective of this lecture is to present on How to Measure Precipitation. Raingage – A cylindrical container that collects rainfall and measures its depth. Tipping-bucket gage – a raingage that also measures timing and intensity.
Errors in measuring precipitation occur due to: Turbulent flow near top of raingage; Water splashes out of raingage; Water is retained on wall of raingage. A measuring scale is usually attached to the tube, so that the amount of precipitation can be measured in inches or centimeters.
