Neutron Diffraction

Neutron diffraction or even elastic neutron scattering is the effective use of neutron scattering on the determination of atomic or magnetic structure of a material. A sample to become examined is put in a beam associated with thermal or cold neutrons to acquire a diffraction pattern that gives information of the structure on the material. The technique resembles X-ray diffraction but this can different scattering components, neutrons and X-rays provide complementary information.
