Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation can be applied to hydrodynamics, nonlinear optics, nonlinear acoustics, quantum condensates, heat pulses in solids and various other nonlinear instability phenomena. It is a classical field equation whose principal applications are to the propagation of light in nonlinear optical fibers and planar waveguides and to Bose-Einstein condensates confined to highly anisotropic cigar-shaped traps, in the mean-field regime. It is a prototypical dispersive nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) that has been derived in many areas of physics and analyzed mathematically for over 40 years.
