Presentation on Wind Vanes

A Wind Vane is used to measure wind direction.  It spins on a rod and points in the direction from which the wind comes. The wind vane is also sometimes called a weathercock. This term arose because of the common shape of a wind vane: a rooster. The rooster image is tied directly to the wind vane’s history. In today’s technological society, it is not often used by people going about their day-to-day lives.
