Social Cognition is a social psychologycal term, that focuses on how people process, store, and apply information about other people and social situations. It refers to a specific approach in which these processes are studied according to the methods of cognitive psychology and information processing theory. It emerged as a distinct field of study in the 1970’s and quickly gained momentum. It is true that social cognition shares many commonalities with social psychology, it can be distinguished by its narrower focus.
