Sources of International Humanitarian Law

The actual four Geneva Conventions connected with 12 August 1949 for the protection of the victims of war are the main sources of international humanitarian law. The rules of intercontinental customary law also play an essential role. Some of them set forth absolute obligations which are usually binding on all Claims (jus cogens).
