Princess Gone, But True King Lives Forever

The story was not supposed to end like this. The princess was dead. Where was the fairy tale ending? Many people around the world, as well as here in Kitsap County, were shocked and grieved. What went wrong?

First of all, we live in a world of sin and death. We all must face that hour when we leap into eternity. For Princess Di, it was at too young an age. She left behind a tragic life. Under the smile and princess lifestyle was a young woman who was facing life alone in a world of glitz and glamour.

What’s wrong with this picture?

In our hearts, we are searching for something royal someone who will be a king. Our TV has shown us that we could be a “queen for a day,” but that soon fades into time. We ask ourselves, “Is there a real prince somewhere?” The answer is yes!

The Bible shows us that Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. Notice he is not the Prince of Pomp or the Prince of Glitter. What Princess Di was looking for, what we are all looking for, is peace. The Bible promises that we can have peace in our hearts and minds when we know the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.

There is something innate in the human spirit that cries out for something greater than the daily get-up-and-goto-work existence. We are searching for someone who lives in a place we can only dream about, someone who lives in a faraway kingdom and lives a life of wealth and total bliss.

We want to find it in people. It’s human nature. We make our movie stars and sports figures into gods. We stand in awe when someone of this status looks at us or shakes our hand. We place these people so high up that the only way left is down.

There is a true king and His name is Jesus Christ. In fact, the Bible says that Jesus is the “King of Kings” and the “Lord of Lords.” God and God alone should be worthy of our worship and total praise. When we put our trust and honor in a person other than Christ, we will always be disappointed.

When Princess Diana died, we paused to read every detail. We wanted to see every picture. We had to see the mangled car that took the life of our princess.

We should desire to know more about the God of the universe. The Bible says that we should seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Yes, there is a kingdom with a reigning king. His name is Jesus. You can’t see it unless your spiritual eyes are opened and you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and savior.

He is a gracious and loving king. Nothing can happen to him, because he already died and rose from the dead that we might have eternal life. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus, the author, and finisher of our faith.

America and the world are looking for a real hero. We are searching for someone who can help us cope with everyday life. Princess Diana is gone. She will be remembered for her honesty and ability to relate to people from all walks of life. Jesus is the true king. He is and always will be the true ruler over the real kingdom.

Earthly kings and queens pass away, but Jesus Christ will live and reign forever. We must look up, not to people, but higher up, to the real king of kings.
