Fractional currency, also referred in order to as shinplasters, was introduced by USA federal government following the outbreak of this Civil War. These fractional notes were used between 21 September 1862 and 15 March 1876 and supplied in 3, 5, 10, 15, 25, and 50 cent denominations across five issuing periods.
