  • Be Specific and Concise: Use as few words as possible to convey your message. Communicate your message clearly, concisely, and directly, whether in person, over the phone, or via email. If you use too many words, the listener will either lose focus or become confused as to what you want. Before you speak, consider the message you want to convey. This will keep you from rambling and confusing people.
  • Be Personable: When speaking with someone face to face, use a friendly tone with a simple smile and ask a personal question. These things encourage the other person to communicate honestly and openly. When using written communication (such as email), you can accomplish this by including a simple personal message, such as “How was your weekend?”
  • Self-Belief: As one of the essential communication skills, self-belief increases the credibility of the message being delivered.
  • Respect: The essence of effective communication is to deliver a message with courtesy while also respecting the receiver’s values, beliefs, opinions, and ideas.
  • Nonverbal Communication: In order to connect with the receiver more effectively, the sender must also use nonverbal communication methods. Gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, postures, and so on are examples of nonverbal communication.
  • Choosing the Correct Medium: Choosing the correct medium for communication is also a skill. It is necessary to choose an appropriate medium based on the situation, the priority of the message, the receiver’s point of view, and so on.
  • Giving Feedback: Communication is always a two-way street. A person must both receive and give feedback in order to understand the other person’s point of view.
