An Ant and a Grasshopper

An Ant and a Grasshopper

It was a very cold winter day. Mr. Ant was busy taking care of the food grains he stored during summer. At that moment he heard a knock at his door. He opened the door and found his friend Mr. Grasshopper standing in front of his door. Mr. Grasshopper said, “I am hungry, please save my life.” Mr. Grasshopper hoped that his friend would not deprive him and would help him with some food. So he requested Mr. Ant to save his life from starvation.

Mr. Ant asked him. “What did you do during the summer? Didn’t you save anything?” Mr. Grasshopper replied. “I spent the whole summer singing.”

Mr. Ant said, “How could you spend the whole summer without doing anything? Didn’t you think that if you didn’t work, you would have to starve?” Mr. Grasshopper said, “I am very sorry for wasting my time. I could realize what a blunder I made. Would you please help me this time?”

But Mr. Ant said, “Poor friend, it is true we have enough for ourselves but we are not in a position to help you.” Find somewhere else to sing, grasshopper! There is no warmth or food for you here! And the ant shut the door in the grasshopper’s face. Moreover, he advised Mr. Grasshopper to dance in winter since he sang in summer.

Moral of the story: ‘Work today and you can reap the benefits tomorrow.’
