If I were the Principal of my School

If I were the Principal of my School

If I were the principal of my school, what changes would I make?

A school is a center of learning. It is headed by a Principal. Being in a position of power means having the ability to make some major changes. If I were to become the next principal of my school, I would make some changes to the school infrastructure and facilities. I am responsible for creating a healthy academic atmosphere in the school. First and foremost, I would build a functional and interactive computer lab. In this IT era, being well-versed in computers is a must to be one step closer to success in career advancement. This lab would be of great use to students who do not have a computer or whose family cannot afford to have one. Since this is the age where they learn new things quicker, it is the best time for them to learn about computers. I shall try my best to make my school a model school.

Next, I would have extra classes over weekends and school holidays prior to major examinations. I shall impress upon the teachers to be punctual and take their classes regularly. Extra classes will be conducted by teachers who are dedicated to helping weaker students. This would be of great help to poorer students who cannot afford to go for tuition.

The learning environment for students is also very important. The chairs and tables in some classrooms are in very bad condition. Some are old and some have been broken by irresponsible students. Thus, I would provide new and more comfortable tables and chairs. Nobody can study peacefully with a creaky chair and shabby desk.

The next thing I would do is improve the quality of food served at the canteen. Currently, the type of food served is not very nutritional, very limited in choice, unhygienic and not tasty. Insects and fine pieces of dust can sometimes be seen floating on the beverages served. I shall then form different committees. They will look after sanitation, water arrangement, canteen, etc. I would have a survey to determine the types of healthy food that should be served and make sure the canteen operators follow this guideline.

Sports play an important part in our lives. I would encourage a lot of sports and extracurricular activities like drama, music, painting, creative writing, clay modeling, photography, horse riding, swimming, dancing, etc. Hence, I would improve the quality of sports equipment and facilities in the school. This would give students, who are not very good academically, to explore and develop their sports talents. That would encourage the students to visit the school regularly and enjoy their long hours of stay.

These are a few things I would do as a principal. Making the changes stated above will change how students perceive school and become more motivated to excel in their studies and in life. As a principal, I would do my best to lead my school towards honors in academics, sports, social and cultural activities. That would improve the working and learning atmosphere in the school.
