Trees are our close friends. They are very important and useful. They give us pleasure with flowers and their fragrance. They feed us with fruits and soothe us by their cool shade. They help us remove our poverty by the wood they provide. They give us oxygen without which we cannot live. Trees absorb harmful gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen, etc. and make the air pure. Trees absorb carbon dioxide as they grow and the carbon that they store in their wood helps slow the rate of global warming. They reduce wind speeds and cool the air as they lose moisture and reflect heat upwards from their leaves. It’s estimated that trees can reduce the temperature in a city by up to 7°C. They prevent soil erosion and floods. The usefulness of a tree cannot be described in words. Bangladesh is not rich in its forest wealth. It has not more than 10% of the total land area as forest area whereas there should be at least 25% of the total land area as forest area for a balanced economy. It is no doubt a shaking matter. The government of Bangladesh distributes saplings to the public free of cost. Roadside trees are planted to beautify the roads and to purify the air. Urban people need fresh and pollution-free air most. Trees play an important role in this respect. The rural people grow fruit trees. They sell a lot of their surplus fruits. They sell a good amount of timber as well. Thus they boost up the rural economy. Birds and bees hover over them to chirp and make their nests. Beasts feel safe and secure in the midst of trees in the forest. In fact, the life of both men and animals will be unbearable in the absence of trees. No one can, therefore, deny the importance of growing trees.
