The Jackfruit – Our National Fruit

Introduction: Bangladesh is rich in fruits of various kinds. It is one of the most famous and popular fruits in Bangladesh. Of all the fruits that are most common and favorite in our country. Jackfruit is undoubtedly the most remarkable one. It is our national fruit. It is my favorite fruit.

Season of this fruit: The jackfruit grows in summer. It is found mainly in the month of Jaista (A Bangla month). The jackfruit tree is a widely cultivated and popular food item throughout the tropical regions of the world. Jackfruit is the national fruit of Bangladesh.

Blossoms: In late winter the jackfruit trees begin to blossom. Within a month or two we see the blossoms turn into small jackfruits. They are then called `Echer’. They are ripening in summer. A mature jackfruit tree can produce about 100 to 200 fruits in a year. The jackfruit is multiple fruits, composed of hundreds to thousands of individual flowers, and it is the fleshy petals that are eaten.

Size, shape, color, and taste: The jackfruit can be very big in size. It can be called a giant among fruits. It has rough and prickly skin. It is bigger in size than other fruits. The color of this skin remains green when it is young. But when it is ripening, it becomes yellow or brown. It is Juicy, sweet and delicious. It is bigger in size than other fruits. Under the skin, the fruit is found to be composed of many flakes. Each of the flakes contains a seed. The flakes are golden in color. They are sweet to taste.

Where grown: The jackfruit grows in all districts of Bangladesh. It grows in plenty in plenty in the hilly regions of Chittagong and Sylhet also on the high land of Dhaka, Gazipur, Mymensingh, Tangail, Comilla, and Jessore. Popularity: The jack is a common fruit of Bangladesh. So, it is easily obtainable. It is liked by all irrespective of children, youths and old persons. It is comparatively cheap. It is popular with common people.

Nutritive value: The jackfruit is a great source of vitamins but very difficult to digest. The jackfruit and its juice are in great demand the entire world by eating jackfruit we get vitamins and mineral salts. So, it is not at all a good fruit for the children and the old men. We get Vitamin ‘’A’’ and “C’’ from Jackfruit cell. We can also make jam, jelly, and juice by Jackfruit’s cell.

Its various uses: Various kinds of tonics, jarring, and fellies are made of jackfruits. The seeds of this fruit are a great source of protein. We eat them by boiling. The curry of `Echer’ is also very popular to the Bangladeshis. It is very tasty. The leaves of Jackfruit trees are good food for cow and goat. From the stalk of Jackfruit trees, we can make furniture. J

Conclusion: The jackfruit is the most important fruit in our country. But it is a matter of great sorrow that its production in Bangladesh is not up to the mark. We should give attention to increasing the production of jackfruits. It is necessary for us to plant more jackfruit trees every year. So, we should try to increase its production for our greater interest.
