The Life of a Day Laborer

A day laborer is a person who leads his life by the sweat of his brow. He is healthy, strong and stout He lives with his family in a slum and leads a subhuman life. He is usually employed in agricultural or construction work. He works from morning till evening, according to the direction of his employer. He gets up early in the morning and goes out in search of work. He works outdoor and usually employed in agricultural and constructional work. His work needs strength rather than skill.

He works hard from dawn to dusk. In the evening, he gets his wages. His income is very low and sometimes cannot earn even a reasonable wage. Then he goes to market, buys his daily necessaries and returns to his house. He works hard the whole day and buys food for his family. He has both pleasures and pains. If he earns more, he gets pleasures. When he fails to do that, he gets pains. He does not know what is joy and happiness. He earns his living by working hard. As his earning is very poor, his children do not get proper education and his family members do not get medical facilities.

A day laborer’s life is really full of hardship. He often works in a very bad working condition. Sometimes he is given to do risky jobs. But he is little paid for such risky and hazardous jobs. A day laborer works in extremely bad weather. In harvesting season his work is in great demand and he can earn more. If he does not find any work, his family starves. Sometimes he and his family go without food if he cannot manage work. If he falls sick, he and his family suffer most. It is true that a day laborer renders valuable service to society. In this way, he does many kinds of work to earn his livelihood. Most of the time he is ill-paid and ill-treated in every sphere of his life.

In our country, the life of a day laborer is full of uncertainty and tension. He contributes a lot to the development of a country. Though the service of a day laborer is greatly important, he does not get his due respect. So, we should show due respect to a day laborer. We should have a soft feeling for him so that he can lead a decent life with dignity. The government of the people or society should come forward to help such people and change their miserable condition.
