The Necessity of Physical Exercise

Physical exercise refers to a set of physical movements or activities to stay healthy or develop a skill. In other words, physical exercise means the movement of the limbs of our body according to rules. None can enjoy good health without physical exercise. If a man is not physically fit and healthy, his mind cannot be sharp and active. It teaches us unity, patience, obedience, discipline, and punctuality.

There are various forms of physical exercise. There are breathing exercises, relaxation exercises, and stretching exercises. There are exercises suitable for the young and there are exercises suitable for the aged. However, walking, racing, swimming, riding, wrestling, and gymnastics are the usual forms of physical exercise. It makes our mind sharp and active. It improves mental strength and capability. On the other hand, different kinds of games and sports such as football, cricket, hockey, badminton, etc. are good forms of healthy exercises. Exercise increases muscle strength, which in turn increases your ability to do other physical activities. Good forms of exercise are walking, swimming, riding, racing, rowing, gymnastics, wrestling and playing many outdoor and indoor games.

If you are regularly physically active, you may:

  • reduce your risk of a heart attack
  • manage your weight better
  • have a lower blood cholesterol level
  • lower the risk of type 2 diabetes and some cancers
  • have lower blood pressure
  • lower your risk of falls.

Physical exercise makes our muscles strong and keeps us active. Thus it helps us get a sound body. We know the proverb – “A sound mind lies in a sound body.” So, we see that having a sound body by taking physical exercise, we actually get a sound mind. Being the worthy owner of a sound body and a sound mind, we can tackle the activities and struggles of life and flourish the creativity of mind. A person habituated in taking physical exercise always keeps fit and remains free from diseases. In a word, it can be said that physical exercise is necessary because taking regular exercise can ensure a happy and successful life. A person unwilling to take physical exercise soon loses his health. The benefits of physical activity are it gives you more energy, it helps you in coping with stress, it improves self-image, and it increases the resistance of tiredness. And with the degradation of health, he loses interest and vigor of life. He cannot go forward and leads an unhappy and unsuccessful life.  It is a physical exercise which enables us to build good health which is the key to success. It makes a man active and strong. It keeps him free from various fatal diseases.

There goes a popular saying – “Health is wealth.” A healthy poor leads a happy life. Frequent and regular physical exercise is an important component in the prevention of some diseases such as heart disease, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, and obesity. But, an unhealthy, though rich, leads a restless and unhappy life. So, the saying reveals the truth – health is the root of all happiness. We can achieve health through physical exercise. That is why we should take physical exercise regularly.
