Seismic Scale

The severity of an earthquake is explained by both magnitude and intensity. These two frequently confused terms make reference to different, but related, expressions. Magnitude, usually expressed just as one Arabic numeral characterizes the dimensions of an earthquake by means of measuring indirectly the vitality released. A seismic scale is generally used to calculate as well as compare the extent of earthquakes.
