Architecture Engineering

Architecture Engineering is the application of engineering principles and technology to building design and construction. It is a relatively new licensed profession, emerging in the 20th century as a result of the rapid technological advancement of the Industrial Revolution. It is the art and science of engineering and construction as practiced in regard to buildings as distinguished from architecture as an art of design. It also is known as building engineering or Architectural engineering, is an engineering discipline that deals with the technological aspects and multi-disciplinary approach to planning, design, construction, and operation of buildings, such as analysis and integrated design of environmental systems, structural systems, behavior and properties of building components and materials, and construction management. Architectural engineers work together with architects and civil engineers but are unique in both their skills and role as part of the building design team. Architectural engineers are engineers that specialize in making buildings.

Architectural engineering as a relatively new licensed profession emerged in the 20th century as a result of the rapid technological developments. The structural safety and reliability of these buildings and the quality of the air we breathe inside of them are designed by architectural engineers.

They do this by combining building systems – structural, electrical, mechanical, lighting, acoustics, and fire protection – into an integrated whole. From the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to the construction of resilient buildings, architectural engineers are at the forefront of addressing several major challenges of the 21st century. These creative problem solvers are constantly facing the challenges of the future like sustainable building materials and green energy sources. Built on a legacy of thousands of years of gradual innovation in construction technology and scientific advancement, architectural engineers apply the latest scientific knowledge and technologies to the design of buildings.

Architecture Engineering is the art and science of engineering and construction

Architectural engineers are trained to use the latest technologies – like computer-based building design and analysis software (Revit, eQUEST, RISA-3D, etc), building information modeling (BIM), and advanced sensors & controls – to design, build, and operate the various systems within a building. They apply the latest scientific knowledge and technologies to the design of buildings. Architectural engineering as a relatively new licensed profession emerged in the 20th century as a result of the rapid technological developments. The structural safety and reliability of these buildings and the quality of the air we breathe inside of them are designed by architectural engineers. Architectural engineers are at the forefront of two major historical opportunities that today’s world is immersed in: (1) that of rapidly advancing computer-technology, and (2) the parallel revolution arising from the need to create a sustainable planet.

Distinguished from architecture as an art of design, architectural engineering, is the art and science of engineering and construction as practiced in respect of buildings. Working closely with architects and construction teams, architectural engineers enable the making of our everyday buildings as well as our monumental buildings.
